"Echoes of Always" Notes on a Fic

Apr 25, 2012 09:59

I came up with this idea back in 2007, right after Sacrifice spoilers broke.  I did not read the book at that time, though I did skim it in the book store (and turn all the copies around backward, but maybe that was childish behavior).  I only just read it back in November when I buckled down to write EoA.  It’s truly a gut-wrenching book full of contradiction and OOCness but Mara’s dead (in profic) and we have to deal with that.   In short, this story was my way of dealing with it.   The great thing about fanfic, though, is that Mara is never dead.  We can rewind and write anything.  (In some cases, we can even fast-forward… see:   “A Thin Veil”, though, to be fair, I wrote that before she died.  LOL)    I plan to do that, rewind a bit, to write AU L/M’s story (whenever I get that chunk of time to write.  Now that the Maiasaura has decided sleep is the enemy, time is at a premium.  LOL).  I have quite a bit already on ‘200 Proposals’ but I’m still shaping it.  We’ll see how far I get, though I plan to post it sometime this summer.

I wrote in the notes at the end of EoA that I couldn’t have written this story without jedimara77 and jadepilot.  This is true.  I am so thankful for fandom to have met both of them.  But I’m also thankful for all of you-you’ve made me smile with your comments and tear-up at your love of the story.   Our love for Luke, Mara, Ben and all things Star Wars might be what brought us together, but I don’t think it’s the only thing that keeps us together.   Friendships like ours are meant to last!

I’d also like to say that I’ve been listening to a particular song quite often.  It’s an older country song, by Ronnie Milsap called “I Wouldn’t Have Missed it For the World”.   I remember the song from when I was a kid, but I never really *listened* to it until one day back in November when I was heading to the library to write more EoA for nano.  The song came on and I literally cried in the car because THAT feeling Mr. Milsap was singing about was what I wanted Luke to feel in the epilogue.    It’s a beautiful song about unselfish love.  The lyrics:

Our paths may never cross again
Maybe my heart will never mend
But I'm glad for all the good times
Cause you've brought me so much sunshine
And love was the best it's ever been

I wouldn't have missed it for the world
Wouldn't have missed loving you girl
You've made my whole life worthwhile, with your smile
I wouldn't trade one memory
Cause you mean too much to me
Even though I lost you girl
I wouldn't have missed it for the world

They say that all good things must end
Loves comes and goes just like the wind
You've got your dreams to follow
But if I had the chance tomorrow
You know I'd do it all again

I wouldn't have missed it for the world
Wouldn't have missed loving you girl
You've made my whole life worthwhile, with your smile
I wouldn't trade one memory
Cause you mean too much to me
Even though I lost you girl
I wouldn't have missed it for the world

Oh I wouldn't trade one memory
Cause you mean too much to me
Even though I lost you girl
I wouldn't have missed it for the world

Anyway, I know I am rambling but it’s meant a lot to me to be able to write something this large in scope.  I never thought I could.  Thanks so much for reading and I love you all!!  *hugs*
