As for the cognitive dissonance, it depends for me - there are cases where it works, and then there are cases where it doesn't. It is late and I'm sleepy, so I'll hold off on explaining right now.
*laughs* ! Oh, yes, Liz has a way with words, doesn't she?
I'd seen the warning before, so I knew it was coming; I don't know about Liz, but when I read it, the mention wasn't so much jarring as... out of place, really. To be honest, it was very teenage boy and so not completely inappropriate, and I think it could have worked with a ...more "mature" or "adult" tone, perhaps. But the rest of it was just so fluffy and innocent and sweet that, yeah, I see where Liz's reaction came from.
Hopefully it didn't come across too badly! We both really enjoyed the ficlet - she is a worshipper of Now or Never, which I have never read, and your Rose/Scorpius was wonderful for us both. ♥
It didn't come across badly at all! I needed that laugh!
Maybe I should tell you that the story originally contained a part where the two of them actually have sex? However, I decided to keep that out and end it where I did because I squicked myself writing teh secks. Heh. I'm a virgin at writing sex scenes and as this is a gift, I thought best to stick to what I know.
Maybe if I did include that scene, "cock" wouldn't have been too jarring.
Dude. You have a S/R fic?! I love that ship and I totally went searching for more of that pairing and couldn't come up with much - AWESOME! My boss has a presentation this morning so guess what I'll be doing? LOL! I love fluff and I love smut. Awesome. :)
Just a thought though. As a reader, do you experience "cognitive dissonance" when encountering smut (or hints of smut) in a fluffy story? Even if it was warned for? My warning for the story: "periodic mention of male genitalia." Awesome warning. :D No, I think fluff and smut can go very well together, so long as the tone matches, you know?
