The "folly" of beauty pageants

Mar 11, 2008 18:27

I've never been a fan of beauty pageants because a) I do not like the idea of women parading around and being ranked according to "desirability," and, I will be brutally honest here, b) there's a bit of bitterness in me because of the fact that I will never be beauty pageant material. So, be warned that I am not the most objective person to ( Read more... )

So you're Phillipino then? Forgive me if I spelled that incorrectly, I've been up for awhile. ^_^;;

And is it just me or have the standards for beauty contests sunk to an entirely new low? I'm not a fan of them to begin with, but this is just absurd. The first one's answer didn't even technically answer the question. And the second one's...wow.

Thanks for posting this!

I'm Filipino, yes. :)

It's not just you. I think beauty pageants are at an all time low as well. :s

Syet, ang sama ko. Dude, I can't finish the clip! Nahihiya ako para sa kanya!! Can you just tell me what she said? I could still hear her laughter.

.. I wonder how she got past the initial screening. Isn't there a screening?? .. And she won?? For Binibining Pilipinas - World?? How the hell is she going to represent the country when she couldn't even explain, in simple words, what she wanted to say?? And why that awful way of pronouncing words? I ken aksept dis pronawnsiyeysyon bat nat dat wan. Hay. I won't even start with the grammar.

Nahihiya ako. *scrolls up and braves it*

All right.. *shudders* .. *exhales* I hope I don't sound like a pompous ass. Sorry if I do. .. Hay.

The other one is better, the second one you posted. But her answer is too .. fixed-sounding. But at least she has thought. Ehe.

You didn't see either in the news? Grabe! *goosebumps* I dislike both of them, period. The first one is just... ugh. The second one is too "professional." Taga UP pa naman. *facepalm*

Lol, this was hilarious. I've never been fond of beauty pageants, but they are brilliant entertainment!

There was another one from Malaysia, when she was asked about which part of her body she disliked most, her answer was "my nipples". In actuality, she was trying to say "pimples". The women in my country are damn fine too. Or maybe it just happens to beautiful women. =D

Beauty pageants are strictly for the lulz for me too! There was this other one, too, where a girl was asked: "What's your favorite feature?"

Answer: My family feature (picture)!

GAH!!!

Damn that was hilarious!

Can I do Mother Teresa, too? Does anyone need a spade?

As for the winner. Aw. She totally tripped up because she realized that her family equaled >1 person, huh? Try as I might I can't bring myself to hate her, though. Hell, it's probably that answer that won her the pageant! *squishes her bony frame*

And yes, your women ARE hot. Those poor girls need tutors, though. Maybe it all balances out, eh?

Both of them were winners. The first one will compete in the Miss World competition, while the second one will go to the Miss International competition.

And I don't hate either of them. What I do not like, though, is the fact that they won. Good luck to my country!

Yes *we* are hot. lololol

BTW, when are we digging?

A few years back a girl won here. The question:
If you were trapped in a desert island, who'd you like to be with?

Answer: My mother.

GEESH! lol

*headdesk*

You should have totally competed. You're hot, and smart. :D *cheers you*

To that contestant: GO AHEAD. Bring your mother to a deserted island and watch her suffer along with you.

Aww, thank you! but... No way! I'm tiny! I'm like 1,60cm! but yeah... I did have the fantasy all right when I was little. *red*

I think most girls had that fantasy. I know I did, for a time, before I realized that it was really "weird" for girls to be parading around for the entertainment of men.

Let us not speak of this again. *blushes*
