Okay. This was the first ever fic I wrote and I still feel a bit icky re-reading it. I'm posting this on LJ just now because, well, because I kind of feel embarassed about the quality of my early work, not that I've written a lot. This was lovely. A bit bitter on Hermione's part, but that's why she's with Ron isn't she? He brings out all the sweetness in every possible way... though a spicy sweet, so it's always good ;)

Thanks! I think smartt, swotty girls mostly overcompensate for physical insecurities. That's why they need simple, loyal boys like Ron. :D

Agreed-plus that personality type is usually quite critical and they set very high standards for themselves. I think it would take her a while to be able to see herself as she really is-as you get older you start to realize that beauty comes in many forms.

I've noticed sometimes in the fandom that people feel that because Hermione is smart and not necessarily focused on her looks that she would not be physically attractive. I think sometimes people forget that these characters are (supposed to be) human and are multi-dimensional. She can be smart and still be concerned with how she looks, and I have no doubt that her partner would see her as beautiful.
