Did I mention I start day shift August 1st? I'm pretty psyched. I have spent the last six months working swing shift, which is 2 PM to 10:30 PM. Which meant no more Skype chats with Glen, no more family dinners, and only seeing my mom on weekends. So I'm very excited to be going back to days, where my days off will be Monday and Tuesday. Well...I think it really depends where you are and what you want. Yes San Francisco is expensive but you can also get a studio apartment there for $800/month...if you don't mind your neighborhood being full of hookers, tweakers, and hypodermic needles on the ground. Anywhere else is maybe $1200 and up in the city. But for anywhere else, like say a town like Modesto or Fresno, which is where my boyfriend is...anywhere from $500 and up/month for a one bedroom. Probably more for better neighborhoods and better places. Once I get a job here we will probably start doing some apartment hunting.

General note: I used to live in an expensive studio apartment in San Francisco. However, I quickly learned that money does not always buy peace and quiet and neighbors that are decent human beings.

Yeah, it is a lot. Of course you can always share a place and it's usually cheaper that way. You'll still end up paying a lot. My roommate and I each paid $650 to share a one bedroom townhouse near our college.

Most people who work in the Bay Area or want to live near SF live in Daly City, South San Francisco, Oakland, or other surrounding areas with more affordable housing.
