Ron had woken up early for once in his life, just so that he could shower in the prefect's bath before anyone else got there, so that no one saw his arm. It was to be the start of a pattern

Ginny is in the Common Room, sitting by the fire and reading a book she nicked from Charlie's room at the Burrow. However fascinating the subject is - the lives of all the great dragon-tamers through wizarding history - she just can't seem to concentrate. Her mind keeps slipping to thoughts about a certain green-eyed wizard - although she won't admit it to herself.

Bugger him. I wish there was some Potion I could take to get him out of my mind.

The sound of step makes her look up and she sees Ron descending the steps, a dark look on his face.

"Ron? Are you all right?"

I hope this isn't about Hermione again...

Suddenly realizing that talking to Ginny means explaining getting beat up by Malfoy, he looks around, trying to find some means of escape, but he knows Ginny's going to find out what happened from Hermione anyway.

"No," he mutters. As he walks closer, Ginny will probably be able to see the bruises on his face and the scabs on his lip where it was split.

Ginny can barely contain a gasp when she sees Ron's face - he looks like he was in a terrible fight, and she can only think of one person who would do that to her brother. Just thinking about it makes the anger boil up inside her.

Malfoy. That bloody bastard...

"Ron, when did this happen? And how?"

She makes room for him on the couch so he can sit down next to her.

"Malfoy. Last night, outside the library. The Ferret and Crabbe and Goyle caught me alone and beat the snot out of me," he told her, sitting down, his head still hanging. "Harry's been trying to give Hermione and I the slip all day so he can go off and pound his face in."
