*takes the envelope from Pig with great surprise on her face upon seeing the pink and red floral paper*

He wouldn't...would he?

*eagerly opens the card, reading it, her face falling when she gets to the last line*

Pig, wait, I'm going to draft a reply for you to take back to him.

Ron,

Thank you for the Valentine. Did you receive my card and letter? I'm sorry about last night. . . I don't know what else to say.

~Hermione

*hands the letter to Pig for delivery*

"I'm sorry about last night. I don't know what else to say."

*A strange sort of feeling stirs in Ron's gut, and it could possibly be dissapointment if he's honest with himself.

He is, of course, not.

He scribbles a note back, even though it would be just as easy just to go down to the common room until she showed up (if she wasn't down there already), but then it wouldn't exactly be easy, would it.*

"I'm sorry about last night. I don't know what to say."

Why don't you just be honest, Hermione? a part of Ron that was so deeply subconscious he couldn't even hear it grumping said, and just tell me 'Sorry Ron. I don't fancy you at all, because you're a loser and you smell like dragon dung. I'd rather snog rich, intelligent, handsome professional Quidditch players that have funny accents.

P.S. Keep up on your homework!'"

What he thought consciously was, Thank Merlin for the chocolate, or else I wouldn't have survived skipping dinner like that.

What he scribbled back was: Yeah, it was nice. Thanks for the chocolate. --Ron.

*smiles as she reads the reply with Pig twittering along right beside her*

I'm glad you're enjoying the chocolate at least. Did you ever come down to get anything besides that for dinner?

*Typical of her to worry about whether or not he's had enough to eat.

He writes:*

Yeah, visited the kitchens.

--Ron

*He doesn't really know what else to write. It's so awkward, having a normal conversation over the post like this. At the same time, he'd rather not have to look her in the face.*
