The Phantom of the Opera

So, I finally saw The Phantom of the Opera today, and let me just say that I am SOOOO glad that I didn't WASTE my money at the theaters and I got to see it free because my roomy Jenny works at Movie Gallery. I was so disapointed with that movie in so many ways... Seriously, THE ONLY good things about that movie were The Set Design, the costumes, ( Read more... )

Yeah, I haven't bothered to see it yet. I'm not sure I really want to. Seeing the live version 4 times (including in London) will always be better than a movie.

yeah, especially since we're Sarah Brightman fans, ... I was bitterly disapointed. So my advice is to not waste money on it and wait for it to come on tv or something, lol, or borrow it from someone... There was more wrong with it though than just Emmy Rossum not even coming close to comparison to Sarah. Like the musical scenes look like a fucking music video, there was no, I mean NO character development, the cutting was absolutely horrible, and I could go on, but obviously i am no where near impressed with the movie. You could tell that Joel Schumacher really had no experience, right, or actually ANY idea on making a musical, BAH!

Well, I love the musical, just not impressed by the movie, oh well. Yeah, Lily told me you guys weren't able to see it in NYC :( but its all good most of the OBC is gone anyways so you didn't miss anything, and I'm sure LA will be good :) So you'll have to tell me what you think then ;) Haha I also heard you guys were able to see snow for the first time when it suddenly decided to snow here the other week. Only in Ohio, that's all I have to say... haha Good to hear from you, and I'm glad that you had a great trip! :)

It wasn't the first time we saw snow but it was pretty cool, it snows up i the mountains here...we can see the snow caps from our house. It was only the second time I had seen it actually snowing, and Lily's first...it was fun though...I wasn't there to sight see, just wanted to see Brianne....didn't see any cornfields though...lol

well i'm not a film student, but i am film buff, so i'd like to think I know some things about movies ;o) I'm not gonna argue with you about the way it was edited, but I think it was necessary. A film verison of a musical cant be a still camera standing in the audience filming the stage, it has to move with the action, and because the musical genre is still so new, and the main forerunners of it so far that have helped bring it back have been films like Chicago and Moulin Rouge(what are youre thoughts on that film?), the editing style has to be music video like, so the modern viewer has something to related the "I am watching people sing to each other in a non-concert format" idea too. I know it seems cheap and coarse to us theatre buffs, but you haveta appeal to the masses, especially in these kinda musical movie adaptions, that are designed to be more blockbuster-ish and less art film like (hence why i thinking the producers and rent are gonna be like this too.) This is the new age of musical movie adaptions, and this is just how ( ... )
