Film editing software recommendations

I would like to consult the hive mind. I need a video editing software to take a number 7 -8 avi I have taken with my wee camera, top and tail them to chop off unneeded bits and then string them together into one film ( Read more... )

The windows port of mplayer/mencoder will quite happily chop/splice/merge as needed though it's not terribly user friendly. It's all command line based. You'll likely need to use the timings of where to cut your clips.

At home I registered my copy of quicktime player to the pro version, and it's dead simple to edit movies. You just highlight the bits you want or don't want on the time line and cut/trim to selection/paste them out as you need. It's about 15 quid so pretty reasonable.
