I am a moderator on a published author's site. There are some SICK human beings out there that glory in trying to tear someone down. I don't get it. And.. as to your suspicions of hacking... some of these psychopaths on our forum have come back for over four years with different personas and different ip addresses. They gathered on Amazon and tell each other how to get around our program that recognizes banned ip's. I really wouldn't put anything past people who are that obsessed and apparently have tons of time to spare. And who obviously have some severe emotional issues.

It's really awful. This lit group is really a bunch of teenagers who go around targeting people... really not appropriate conduct at all.

I just added another link from Angstgoddess003.

I followed some of those links to see what was going on, and to be honest the people she mentions that target fics are exactly the same as some of the... critics... that I get to deal with. If they didn't spend inordinate amounts of time lashing out at people I would swear they were the same group ( ... )

So is this just affecting the twilight fandom on ffnet?

*shudders* I really hope this gets sorted out!

It's not just Twilight. Although Twilight is getting the most traffic right now, therefore, they are getting hit harder than others.

A gal was telling me today that an author for SVM was having 2 fics deleted and as soon as that happened, she received an email from James telling her that she needed to edit her other 2 stories or risk deletion of those.

*scratches head*

Makes NO sense.

This group that goes around flaming has a huge list that they call the "shit list"... lots of fics from several fandoms. Most of the links are dead as most of the fics have been removed after harassment.

Just looked on that forum... and their leader, states on his profile that he will troll anyone he thinks deserves it.

Surely that is against ffnet rules?

And he is British... cyber-bullying is against the law in the UK. What he is doing is planned, direct and organised.

I really can't believe that people don't have a life... and their list o.O bolding those that have been deleted!

One of the heads of that group harassed Shug over a Twilight one-shot she wrote 2 months ago.

SHUG! I mean... seriously.... SHUG!

Two (maybe it was 3) weeks ago I sent an email to fanfiction.net complaining about this group and what they're doing.

I really am amazed. I don't usually go around reporting violations of ToS btw, particularly because the lines can be so subjective, but ironically for a couple of years now, it had seemed to me that FFN was completely ignoring truly gross violations to the point there is no differential now between FFN and AFF in content--and one story was so blatently in violation (Can we say explicit, graphic, underage student/teacher rape?) I did report a story--I even know I wasn't the only one--and yup--it's still there, and lots and lots of SSHG up there that is well into NC-17 territory--well into--and they're going after others who are arguably R? WTF?

Yeah. It's strange.

FF.net has has been closing their eyes and plugging their ears for the last 2-3 years and ignoring everything. I reported a couple of stories for plagiarism (where the 'fanfic' was a copied book with only name changes) and seriously had to report daily for 2 wks with ISBN #'s and proof before FF.net would react. We've been calling it a "don't ask, don't tell."

And here, a fic was targeted, flamed, reported and in LESS than 24 hrs the author has received a warning email stating that their story is in violation and they need to fix it or remove it?

Since when do they warn? Or even bother corresponding?

It's not making any sense to me whatsoever.

I seriously contemplated posting my trashy ho!mione fic to see what would happen with it.

I just read angstgoddess003's post, and I flat out don't believe James is legit and think he should be ignored.

Ironically (and yes in Trek I go back that far) I was unhappy when FFN first instituted it's no NC-17 policy. It meant that good adult stories got thrown out, didn't have a good general archive alternative (AFF sucks, really) and it can be such a subjective call.

But once you do put something in the TOS, I think authors should honor it, if only because readers then have reason to believe they're safe from such content--and certainly some stories go way beyond the "R" line. God knows I've been surprised at what some people call "R" I think if you use the p0rn words for certain parts of anatomy in a sex scene, you've crossed the line into NC-17. If you describe hard kinks you've crossed into NC-17 (and when you have both ( ... )

...WTF?!

I had heard something about that group, but not about the admin, if he can be called that. I can't help but thinking, cynic that I am, that the two are linked to be responding in that timeframe to fics targeted by that group.

While there's plenty of other archives around to post on, this sort of thing just isn't on. Yet what can be done?

Nothing really can be done.

I see the 2 as possibly linked, though not everyone agrees with that.

Regardless, to me that seems more than a little bit possible. But others don't believe that.

Some think it's an attack on the Twilight fandom, but after talking to someone else, i don't necessarily believe that.

Really, I don't know. More than anything, I'm relying on my gut feelings.
