Roadside America is a very quaint little place. It definitely has the air of a tourist attraction big 40 years ago. Both RA and Crystal Cave reminded me of vacations I took when I was a kid (oddly about 40 years ago). But it was a fun hour there and John and I had a chance to talk and reminisce about days gone by. There is a bit of Christianity that they force on you about once every 45 minutes, but is it a very patriotic and schmaltzy, so not too off putting. After all, this was one man's life work and he was a religious person.
The other bonus to this little side trip was the town of Shartlesburg itself. This quant little burg has interesting surprizes around every corner (and nothing is marked). We turned a corner and found a gas station from a bygone era with old style pumps and prices marked around 17 cents! There is a fairly well known place for food there as well, Haags Hotel.
