And now, some are playing the race card. They are saying that aid is slow because the people in need are poor and black. I don't want to believe that.
People who compare this to 9/11 are really not using a rational thought process. 9/11 was contained in a relatively small area, Katrina hit across at least 3 STATES. Rescuers were almost immediately on site at the Towers. It was nearly impossible to even get close to the hardest hit areas in the gulf for a few days. It is still tough to get in and around.
I will admit that it is possible that many of the people remaining in New Orleans, in particular, may be poor and black, but that should not be a consideration in how quickly they get help. We are all human beings, after all.
