Quick question

If you had waited a long time for a story to update, would you rather get a shorter bit sooner or wait a little longer for a more substanstial bit?

Any answers to this might help me make up my mind on a dilemna.

Sorry this is so late...

I have no preference, but I know when an author is taking a long time to update, I appreciate the occasional "Hi, I'm not dead, and I'm still working on the fic" message. I've been burned so much by authors who don't bother to finish a fic they started and don't even mention that they have no intention of finishing.
