In which Ginny vents her shelter frustrations.

I have been working in my shelter for going on a year now, and I absolutely love it - it is one of the most rewarding things I've ever done. But there are certain things that make me RAGE harder than a rabid fangrrl who just had someone bash her favorite pairing. There are a few things I just HAVE to get off my chest. I hate seeing perfectly good ( Read more... )

Agreed on the pit bulls! One of my friends has a pit bull and she is the biggest and sweetest baby ever! Any dog can be mean and any dog cane be nice. It really depends on how that dog is treated.

I had a part of my bottom lip bitten off by a rat terrier when I was 12. But yet I still went and adopted a rat terrier puppy when I was 14 (it was that previous dog's half sister) and her personality was very gentle and sweet. But her brother's personality was overprotective and grumpy. So honestly you can't judge the dog by its breed.

I can definitely understand someone being fearful of a breed if they had a bad experience! Just like say someone was in a car accident and becomes afraid of driving. No one is saying you have to get that kind of dog - just understand that EVERY DOG OF THAT BREED ISN'T OUT TO KIIIIIILLL YOOOOOOOU

I think it is totally awesome when people DO get over it though, and I'm glad you did! I used to dislike cats cause I was scratched as a kid, and now I have two of them.

Everything you said is sooooo true.

lol well the dog that bit my lip was my sister's dog. Plus I know it was partially my fault he attacked me.

People just need to remember the saying "Get back on the horse." Seriously because someone has a bad experience doesn't mean everytime they do that or whatever is going to make it a bad experience.

They can be SOOOOOOO freakin' awesome, just like popular dogs can be terrors. People need to get a clue!

As soon as you're ready, there are TONS of kittens to choose from right now! Good luck!

Too many people are impatient morons unwilling to learn about proper animal care. *disgusted*

While I'm not a dog person, I've read enough to know that pit bulls are a good breed given the right time, love and attention. They are only mean because of horrible owners.

<3 to the animals

It's good to see that there are people out there who educate themselves, even if they're not planning on getting a dog themselves!

I wish more people would do that!

you said exactly what i've always thought. people buy pets frivolously all the time and the animal ends up in either very poor care or neglect or just plain old getting dumped back at the shelter ( ... )

dude SO SO SO much word. particularly about the "we wouldn't adopt it if it was bad" and "if you can't afford $60 you shouldn't be getting them." SOOOOOO much truth.

As for my shelter, they provide a lot of the vaccines already, the animals are up to date on what they need by the time they leave. Only thing is if the animal is young, the owner is responsible for upcoming shots, though we provide a couple where we can cause we have a nurse on staff who can give them. with the spay neuter we have them leave a refundable $50 deposit, and give them suggestions. Grimmy and soon Casval took advantage of the $20 spay/neuter my vet offers. But I WISH we had a program like yours - I should research it...

BTW...was it hard to set up that donation thing you had on your birthday? I would kinda like to do that too. or else I'll just set up the paypal link to my shelter, lol.
