I Got A Rock.

So yesterday I saw a little girl in pink cowboy boots chase a pigeon. It made me happy to know that somethings dont change no matter where you are. Ok finally the exciting conclusion to the Open Door day weekend! Finally! I promise to be better about getting pictures up in a timely fashion in the future. Warning lots of pictures to come.

When we parted ways last time we had just finished seeing Broughty Ferry and decided to head into the actual little town of Broughty Ferry for tea and filled rolls. They like to stuff everything into rolls here. And then on to the Fisherman's Tavern! Imagine a tavern for fisherman in a fishers villiage!

This place!

It was cool, the guy gave us a tour of the tavern, the new additions its gone through since 1837 and how its now a bed and breakfast. The guy was really nice and informative. Afterwards he gave us free tea, or coffee. It was really nice and friendly. There were several couples in there having their Saturday lunch in their favorite pub kind of thing. It was very cozy and we all liked it much better then the "castle" we had seen earlier.

Here's the girls having our refreshments. Left to right. Me, Aurelie Eva (the other Girl German flatmate) and Christina

A need pictures of Mikko and Moritz.

This is my roommate Eva outside the tavern

Next we went to St. Stephen's and West Church.

Christina standing in the archway of the door.

It was a very lovely old church with some really beautiful stained glass.
I particularly liked this one. Its the women of the bible. Both lovely because it pays them tribute, but also sad since there really is so few of them.

A neat view of the front of the church. It really was lovely.

The best part of the church though was the ladies that were there to greet people. They were these little old scothish ladies that had been in Broughty Ferry their whole lives and had grown up in the church. They were amazing. They insisted that we stay for tea and homemade bread. Even though we were all full from the last two stops we didnt want to hurt their feelings they were so excited to have international students in their church. The gingerbread was incredible. We all signed the guestbook and put our countries at the ladies insistance. We all left grining from the gingerbread and the sweet small town hospitality.

Our next stop was the Northwood Mansion.

It really was a mansion. Unfortunately it has been turned into offices. It would have been incredible to walk around it when there was the original furniture. The place was massive! You could have played hide and go seek for ages!

This is the orginal kitchen range of the house. Piece of U.K. trivia a stove is called a hob.

In the attic tucked away there was a spiral staircase leading up to a look out tower that surveyed the grounds and the surrounds area. Moritz shows off the sturdyness of the stairs.

Our last stop on Saturday was at Claypots Castle. It was more like a real castle. Tiny as can be. Its a z castle. The design of it is in the shape of a z if you look at it from above. All the orginal stone was there, and you could run around the various rooms. It was a lot of fun.

Christina, Mikko, and Aurelie sit down for a Medieval dinner. Check out the fireplace in the background.

There were lots of neat little niches and cupboards cut into the walls. I dont know what they put here in the time of this castle but it was a nice place for me to rest.

More pictures of taking pictures!

In the kitchen we decided to do some medieval cooking. Roasting International students seemed to the main course.

That concluded our adventures on Saturday. Sunday we all woke up and had a big breakfast in our flat. So much good food. Then we walked to the Botanical Gardens. A bit of a hike but well worth it. Absolutely gorgeous.

It had several different areas. Some oriental style areas, more norhern European areas, English garden styles, woods, mountain plants and an exotic green house with plants from the more tropical reagions. It was truely lovely.

Etienne and Marijke by one of the many ponds on the grounds.

There was a little sitting area by a brook (its the momunment looking area in the back.)

There was a staircase covered in vines. Looked like something straight out of the Secret Garden. Unfortunately, it didnt lead anywhere. I still really liked it though.

Look a pretty flower!

So that concludes the excited adventure that was Open Door Weekend. And I'm one step closer to being caught up picture wise. There will be some pictures from the highland hiking last weekend but dont expect much it was raining and miserable. Still got some good pictures though and they will be up soon. I miss everyone back home but am so happy to be here. Much love from the land of the Scots.
