Good lord

Holy crap. I just tallied up my word count for writing this year and on this computer alone it's at just over 44,500 words. Which is, uh, much more than I'd anticipated. Only about half of that is actually polished up and in a form where anyone online has seen it, so it might not count but I'm inexplicably pleased regardless. And I've more over ( Read more... )

wow i really can't shut up to save my li, writing

I put in my two uncompleted longshots, so I think Armaments would very much count. This wasn't "what I've finished", just "what I've written down". :)

And yeah, I think you're right on the money for why SPN is so easy to write for. There are SO MANY PLOT HOLES and Sam and Dean are both pretty relateable. It's easy to write from their perspectives. And the snark is fun. *g*

Man, I don't even want to consider my original fiction dry spell. I sketch my characters on occasion, but actually writing anything out for them? I don't think I've done that for about two years and even then it was nothing impressive or more then a couple of paragraphs.

Prior to last August I think the last time I posted anything fanficcy online was in... 2005, maybe 2004. Senior year of High School >.< So don't feel all that bad! If it hadn't been for me deciding to get back into the writing and challenging myself with whenboymeetsboy (J2, A Sketch in time) and my 'ramble' write it in one sitting fics, I probably wouldn't really be writing at all... other than my novel that is slowly be churned out and heavily edited as I go.

Pretty much all of what I've written is in the "ramble" style, which is why I think I've all of two pieces that are longer than 6K. I think it counts, but I'd really like to be able to actually plot out a multi-chapter story and then have the devotion to stick with it to the end. They're a lot more satisfying for me to read, since I enjoy long fic. Maybe one day I'll have the attention span to actually write one as well. *g*

Hrm. I forget my total for last year. I think it was just over 100k but I don't remember. This year would be at least 40 but probably not more than 60 ... just because of sweet charity and big bang. Lol, I'd have to remember which ones were which first. ;)

Wow! 100K? That's awesome! See, it's been so long since I was able to write a significant quantity that I'm impressed with even my wee 40K. *g* 140-160K within a two year span is pretty amazing!

I think I want to try BB next year. Do you know when the sign ups are? Can you start plotting ahead of time or is it like NaNoWriMo, where technically everything is supposed to be done after the first of November?

*g* Well, it was only because my first fic, Samael, ended up about 55k, and then the Spirit 'verse ended up 25k - aaaaaaaaall the other stuff made up the difference.

Sign ups are usually end of Jan or the start of Feb - just watch the spn_j2_bigbang com.

55K in one story... I hope I manage to get there someday!

I think I'm going to try to sign up for it this year. Which... scary. But we'll see - something might come of it. *g*

I would hate to work out mine, because so much of it is deserted WIPs (I wrote 12,500 words on a Dean/Castiel fic and then abandoned it *headdesk*)

But I can't write to order, so no way I'd do NaNoWriNo but I do do wrisomifu (Write Something You Miserable Fsuk"> XD Much more satisfying (and achievable *lol*)

I feel you there. A large chunk of my WC is a Dean-Castiel gen fic that's over 9K words and is sitting completely untouched since February. It doesn't help that it's been jossed to hell and back. *g*

"Write Something You Miserable Fuck"? Oh, that sounds *perfect*! I'm definitely going to check that out!

Yeah - that is always a pain in the ass! With mine, I started it just before the end of S4 and tried to carry it on over hiatus and just totally ran out of steam and ideas and enthusiasm! Still, I'm not that worried yet - when I started writing fic I would panic that I'd never write again as I was only really in one fandom (Torchwood). Now I write in 3 or 4, I tend to find I swing between then all depending on how I feel, and as I'm writing like a crazything in one of my others (Bleach) I'm ok with it. Plus, every piece of writing makes the next one a bit better!

Yeah, that comm is awesome! Was the highlight of my November last year, some of the comments were just great XD

Oh man, tell me about it. The Castiel-Dean one I wrote just after 4x14 aired and it was all about Dean getting kidnapped by Alistair with Castiel charging off to the rescue, and it dealt with Dean being put in a position where he was being coerced into torturing again. I was kind of pleased with it, and then 4x16 happened and we got canon torturer!Dean and it sort of felt like... what's the point?

I agree - the more you write, the better you get! I tend to be a serial monogamist when it comes to writing. I've written fic for a good half dozen fandoms at least, but I tend to concentrate more on one than flip between any of them. I wish I could do it in your style; being able to switch it out seems like a great way to keep up steam because you never get tired of one world or set of ideas.

I'm SO going to join that comm when they open membership again. XD I put it on my watch list, so I'll definitely be keeping an eye out. It sounds perfect!
