So here's what I don't understand.

Our survey teams have uncovered what looks like a small settlement from the pre-First War era. I'm told that there's evidence of communal life and even what might have been a pictoral writing system, but I haven't had the chance to go down there yet. (I'd welcome the company if anyone would like to see it sometime.) It's looking like we as a ( Read more... )

*sits opposite him, biting her lip and thinking* ...Any idea how old the Matrix is, exactly? If it's been used before?

*headshakes* Really old. Older than Cybertron by an order of magnitude.

*nods* So presumably it would have records of pretty much all of Cybertron's history, from the Autobots' point of view at least...

*thinks for a moment*

Okay - can you get hold of any of the Primes on their own at any given point? If you can work out who had the Matrix at that period of history, you can ask them if anything happened. Then if they don't remember or something worrying, you know there's a fault in the records in that end.

Plus there's the whole 'a lot of Cybertron is in ruins' part. That won't help finding records of anything.

*chuckle* That's true.

Maybe once things settle down a bit, I can risk re-entering the Matrix. *slight, subtle shiver* I'm not sure how well it'll work - I've never been able to control my experiences before.

Prime, I suspect that nothing - except perhaps Unicron - can happen to the Matrix.

It's funny. I find myself missing the scarlet brand of late. When I deserted, I never imagined that that might happen.

*wan smile* Yeah, well. If Unicron can be destroyed, then so can the Matrix. Or even lost or something.

*tilts head* Regrets?

Can Unicron be truly destroyed? But I take your point regarding loss.
*tailtwitch* *glowers at own tail*
Something like that. Perhaps I'm thinking too much.

*shrug* He's destroyed enough for our purposes, but I take your point.

*heh* I get that sometimes too.

It's possible, I suppose. I don't know a lot about the war itself, only that it happened.

I just wish we'd been better prepared for the Quints becoming an active force in our lives again.

You think maybe something happened to make them lose something that important? A lot of human knowledge was lost in a certain area during the Dark Ages.

I suppose. I know there was at least one other war before this one...

Destruction of archives. Oral records being destroyed along with the mechs who held them.

Maybe. I just wish Optimus had said something.
