That concession speech? THAT was my John McCain. That's the man who got me interested in politics back in 2000. That's the guy who I proudly call one of my heroes. Welcome back, John; I missed you. I never stopped doubting that you were in there, but it sucked to see you use the same tactics that killed you 8 years ago ( Read more... )

To me it doesn't matter if that man was back in there somewhere. He dirtied his hands too much, and stooped too low to ever have my respect. I didn't start out disliking him, and I wasn't a fan of Obama to begin with, but the underhanded, vicious, and sometimes disgusting route McCain's campaign took during this election has forever ruined that man in my opinion.

I think a lot of people feel that way. John McCain was trying to appeal to a voter base that was never his (the crazies who won Bush the past two elections), and he didn't win them. For a lot of people, he's lost respect, but I spent the whole campaign holding my breath waiting for him to come back.

Everytime I started to worry, there'd be that little ray of the old John McCain that would come through, and I'd remind myself it was all a show. I'm just glad it's all over now.

i concur with everything in your post. mccain could've been a truly great president, and i'm still kind of regretful that the new one has NO military experience at all. i don't know what he thought he was doing for the past 8 years.

considering how big of a deal the military experience did-it-happen-or-didn't-it was the last time around, i'm surprised at how infrequently it came up in this race.

and it made me smile thinking about our first aim chat and my utter shock at your then-political beliefs, and all the arguments our "unshakable" values caused. oh, youth...i don't miss it. (i mean the arrogance; i totally miss hanging out with you)

Haha, yeahhh... the good old days.

I would love if Obama gave McCain a cabinet position (like Defense!), but I'm definitely not expecting it.

oooh, that WOULD be cool. however, would it make him a liar after publicly promising his wife calm years in the post '08 election time span? hmm...

i'm not holding my breath on it, either, but i'm also fairly certain that bomba's going to shock me pleasantly a lot during his time in office.

I think so, too. I just hope Congress picks up on the message and tries to actually work together for once. If that will ever happen, I think now's the time.

I wish I could go to his inauguration, buuut I'm betting tickets for that baby sold out Tuesday night around midnight.

I know what you mean, I had said in the past that McCain was the only Republican I know of that I'd vote for. My original choice for the election like a year ago was:
Clinton
McCain
Obama
Then Clinton lost the primary and McCain went mudslinger.
(Granted at the time I made that list I knew very little about Obama and was holding his inexperience against him.)
Hmmm... LJ needs to add Obama to the spell check...

I can't stand Clinton. Her and Nancy Pelosi. I'd be pissed if either was our first female president. I'd rather it be someone a little more like Obama; without the "insult disguised as a compliment" philosophy those two seem to love so much. If she wants to run again after some other woman has become president, I wouldn't complain as much.

I just don't want her being the chick numero uno :\

And wtf @ Obama not being in LJ's spell check. Talk about a name that's fairly common in posts.
