Character's Name: Kalinka L. Wellington (Kali or Kali-chan, if you're brave)
Series: Original
Age: 16
Grade Level: Sophomore
Character Type: Mage
Backstory: Lenore Wellington happened upon Kalinka one day while taking one of her usual strolls through the woods, following the sound of what she could only describe as lightning in broad daylight. Not seeming lost or confused, the child knew her first name, and seemed to think that Lenore was her mother, without question. As it turned out, no one seemed to be looking for the girl, and there was no clear explanation as to why she would either have amnesia or be convinced that she had come through the forest with the young woman. Not wanting to leave Kalinka at the mercy of living in an orphanage, Lenore was kind enough to take her in. While it was odd to suddenly have a daughter, they did seem similar enough, and while it was also quite possible Kalinka was simply an insane little girl, she was the very opposite of dangerous or malevolent.

Kalinka's new mother was herself a mundane journalist for a London paper, with more than a bit of a green thumb. Her excessive bent toward being nature friendly rubbed off, along with a belief in God, and most of everything else Lenore did, though Kalinka naturally put her own, personal quirks into it all. Lenore's fiance, the Dr. William D. Powers, was eccentric enough in his own right, working as a scientist under a foreign company that Lenore would often bash in her articles, ironically enough. Their relationship, of course, did not sit very well with those overlooking the security of the company's seedier operations, but it was not the company who would directly cause their real grief.

Around the holidays, the artificial family was visiting a house that belonged to one of William's colleagues and dear friends, whose children had likewise become very close to Kalinka. It was that other family who had helped her to realize she had the powers of a Mage, as they had peculiar abilities themselves. The events of that night were far from unrelated, as a vicious demon had come, in possession of a human, seeking vengeance for something their father had done in the name of his order. William was the last one to arrive, and likewise, the only one not to witness the carnage happen with his own eyes. Through whatever miracle, he found Kalinka injured and traumatized outside the wrecked house, but very much alive. Lenore and the others were, oversimply, not as fortunate.

Kalinka has been coming to St. Catherine's with William as her new legal guardian. Though the official papers may now list her as Kalinka Powers, she always signs Kalinka L. Wellington, the name given by her mother. She keeps to herself, mostly avoiding new friends that she'll fear to lose, either due to inevitable drifting over time or more sinister reasons. However, she does not consider herself very shy, simply few of spoken words. This is likely a good thing, due to her often blunt honesty and tendency to judge harshly over things many others wouldn't think twice about.

She excels in only the subjects she cares to, doing only as much as she has to in all others. Outside of school, she spends her time with the many arts, be they literary, visual, or musical, also practicing a little known martial art that died with an old friend. Magically, she specializes in nature, healing, and lightning, which she has been found capable of harmlessly conducting through her body. Harmless, at least, to herself, especially not so for those on the receiving end of a striking blow.

Sample LJ Post: Now, where would I find one of those . . ?

Preferred Roommate: Kalinka would prefer a single, though I'm sure she could become rather creative in avoiding anyone that annoys her.

Sort of just want to say she's been there the whole time just...very, very quiet. New arrival posts are only interesting so many times, anyway.
