I felt so sad for all of them at the end (again) and yet I loved how this ep addressed the downsides of travelling with the Doctor and the nature of the Doctor-companion relationships and how Eleven is trying to make things right, he knows what his issues are.

YES. I loved him leaving them behind, because he knew that traveling with him was a mathmematical proof. More time = more chances that you'll die/be brainwiped/etc.

And I loved that Amy took it calmly, no begging, no hysteria. Her life was fine. Her friendship with him was fine. It was such an amicable parting.

One thing I love about Amy is she craves the adventure but she loves her regular life too. She's got one foot in the Tardis and one in the here and now of life on earth, and she maybe has to wait sometimes, but she doesn't have to choose as irrevocably and stringently and harshly as prior companions have. That it's possible to have wacky space time adventures and also have home/family/domestic life.

Yes, this! That she used to use the TARDIS to escape, but now she's been settled, she's lived some of her life and going back to it isn't something that's scary. She never thought of it as forever, but something she was having fun doing.
