Well, flist? Opinions on the Dan Harmon/Community news? I find tumblr to be a place of increasingly scary tinhattery.

I'm totally in a holding pattern. To be completely frank, I wasn't expecting to GET any more Community at all, so I'm not as upset by this as I could be - like, yes, the next 13 episodes might suck. But they weren't episodes I was ever counting on anyway, so whatevs. And hey, they might be FINE.

Also, I'm one of the people who thinks that the show went a little off the rails this season. I mean, don't get me wrong! I loved a TON of the individual episodes, but I HAAAATED the Chang storyline, for instance, and didn't enjoy the season over-all the way I did previous seasons. It's kind of like Buffy S6 - I loved a few individual episodes and I still loved the characters, I just....didn't like the overall story arc. I guess I'm actually kind of hopeful that new influences might tone some of that wigginess down and tighten the focus again?

YES. I mean, I love Community a lot, but this season was not without it's duds and flaws. And the Chang thing... I liked it when he was their whacky teacher, crazy from power not from... actual mental disorders. I feel like ex-security guard saying, "Listen, you guys, this man has an actual mental disorder and needs help, he doesn't need to be enabled."

I think that the things I love about Community can definitely be done in a more "general viewer" friendly way. Which is to say, I don't think the criticisms that Community is weird just to be weird or is off putting to a lot of viewers are undeserved.

I'm very, very wait and see. Because if Community turns into a Big Bang knock off, then I'm out, but if it's still funny then I'm still there.

I think the absolute peak of Chang funniness was when we met his brother -- because Rabbi Chang mocking Senor Chang was hysterical in a brilliant and unexpected way.

THIS EXACTLY. I was going to say that at the end of the day I'm here for Troy and Abed and Annie in the moooorning, but that's not really true. I love the show a LOT and I'm super fond of the supporting characters and the whole...I don't know. The whole idea of Greendale. I don't want to lose the meta overtones (oh god, I really don't - the L&O episode made me laugh so fucking hard. And the Omar shout-out! I just. <3 <3 <3) but I do agree with you that the show can be too much and kind of off-putting at times. I wouldn't have stuck with it, I don't think, if I'd started this season.

Oh, man, Rabbi Chang and Sr. Chang were SO FABULOUS. And that's where we got the windmill joke, omg. I'd forgotten how FUNNY it was.

The meta is part of what I love, but most of what I love is the characters - and I think a lot of that is the actors. Pudi and Glover and Brie. They bring Abed and Troy and Annie to life. Those characters are why I tune in every week.

That's my feeling, too. I have to believe that Chase is not a big enough star to have that sort of pull. In all honesty, he hasn't been funny in a long time and you definitely get the impression he's playing Pierce for the money.

Yeah, after trash talking the show. :/ I think both of them acted really immaturely there.
