I promised I would stop reading this, but I just can't because of blarg REASONS.
Ok, so I still feel the same way as I did always about how fucked up Teahouse is when it comes to gender issues and slavery issues and sex-worker issues and rape issues for that matter. Which is: they are handling it badly, handwaving it at best and at worst dismissing the issues all together (what? Rory might not want to be raped by a controlling asshole? But they're both hot! So we will handwave the issue!).
BUT I think the reason I keep going back to the comic is that there's so much potential. I like the idea of a comic about sex workers who are some ok some not ok with their work. I like the potential of a comic that explores people who treat sex like business. I have to admit, I like the idea of a Lady Heather style brothel where people realize that what they do is ok.
Only every time I feel like Teahouse is right at that point of being awesome, they do some truly gross cultural appropriation (please look at Axis' tattoos and then Maori tattoos and tell me that we're not supposed to see the similarities when I'm 100% positive Axis is not actually supposed to be Maori) (or for that matter Linneus and his on and off again bindi that makes me kind of facepalm perpetually) or they do some truly gross non-con without admitting that it's non-con or cultural appropriation.
UGH. WHY CAN'T I QUIT YOU, TEAHOUSE. WHY ARE YOU SO GROSS NOT OK.
