Google notifier?

So apparently Google notifier is going away? Which is super annoying, because I still use it as a way of checking email without actually checking email. :(

Anyone have anything similar to notifier? And not the Chrome add on, because I don't use Chrome.

Do you use Firefox? I use an add-on called X-notifier. It's pretty awesome.

I use Gmail Manager, but it hasn't been updated in a couple of years, so I had to do a fix to keep it working, and I can't actually remember what I did! But it's ideal for me, because I just have a couple of little envelopes at the bottom of my browser (for different email accounts), and they let me know when I have new mail/quantity of mail, and if I hover over the envelope, I get a snippet of the mail.
