I don't get homophobes. They still think that homosexuality is something people choose. If that's the case, then did they choose to be straight? Of course not. But of course they made the "right choice" so naturally anyone who doesn't make that choice is wrong and should be spurned.

You and me both....who would choose to be the one everybody had to learn to 'accept' in their family?

Oh, you're making a huge assumption here :)

You know - about homophobes being necessarily straight.

People fight most to protect values / traditions which they kept at a huge personal price.
Mostly because otherwise they'd look... to themselves... stupid for not living as they wanted to begin with.

Think about it - Religion? Abstinence? Wearing a veil (Muslims)?
No one fought to keep horses. No one goes and attacks Vegans on the street. They would had they hated eating meat but did so anyway because... That's what was done.

People don't want to accept that they gave up on something in their lives just because they never thought about changing it. So instead - when someone else does change it, they... They need a reason why he's wrong and they are right.
Mostly it boils down to "because that's how you do things", or "it's wrong because... it's wrong!", which is such a bad excuse you have to resort to violence to actually have any hope of convincing people :/

Look on the bright side Abbie: the days of our rubber stamping Senate and do-nothing Congress are limited. Besides, constitutions can always be ammended to cancel out existing ammendments, so the possibility still exists that someday the inhabitants of the great state of Wisconsin will be able to marry whoever and whatever they want! ;)
