Wislawa Szymborska, winner of the 1996 Nobel Prize for Literature, was born in 1923 in Kornik Poland. She started publishing shortly after World War II and is considered among the best postwar Polish poets. She has produced nine volumes of poetry. Szymborska lives in Krakow, Poland
