Apparently there's some big event happening in a couple of weeks?

I am kind of secretly excited about the Olympics. Well, not so secretly now that I've written that. Yesterday after Erin's baby shower (there was tea! and many tiny outfits!), the older sis and I took a ride on the "Olympic Line".

According to my dad (who is one of the operations managers at Skytrain), if ridership is good they are looking to extend it to STANLEY PARK!!!! How cool would that be?? It's such a touristy thing (I don't know many people who would use it as a commuter option), but very cool nonetheless!!

You know those cut-out skytrains you used to be able to get? They come as a flat sheet of thick paper and you have to fold it together? My dad got one of them in Olympic street car format!! When I was little, they would take me FOREVER to put together, this one took me 2 minutes. Then i put it on the mantel. :)

OOooooh I want one!

Yes I seem to recall something about stanley park. As someone who formerly was a frequent commuter with the tourists from Waterfront to Granville Island I think it'd almost be worth it for the summer just to connect up Granville Island and the Canada Line. Everything else on top of that is bonus!

I am excited about the olympics too. I don't really understand why people are still protesting it. Get over it, its happening people! It will be interesting to watch it all happen from far away in a place I will always call "home". Torch is here on Friday and I fully plan on going.

I totally understand the reasons for protest, and agree with alot of them... yet I find I am oddly excited. Once in a lifetime thing and whatnot... but will definitely be keeping an eye on things re: the fucked up-edness of the IOC and the DTES.

Oh cool, I had seen the line, but hadn't really looked into where it went. I think it's a good idea tourism-wise. A lot of touristy locations in Van are kind of hard to get to on transit. I used to work at Granville Island too and tourists were always lost, since the bus doesn't actually go into the island.

The #50 was the only bus I ever rode where they consistently would announce that one stop. And even then I would still find myself shepherding hapless lost tourists from the bus stop onto the island. Can only imagine if the bus actually went onto the island.. would add like another half hour to its route from getting jammed up in traffic. ha!

I was so confused...never heard of the OLYMPIC LINE. and was like "WHAT? the Canada Line took 7bazillion years and an Olympic Line springs up overnight?"

I am totally jealous of your living-in-vancouver during the olympics-ness.

i know. i'm a secret masochist who wants to be jammed it with the entirety of humanity on public transit for two weeks IDK WHY.

Come visit for some of it! We will write street cars and drink beer in tents and pretend we know what's going on when sporty stuff happens.

Also, FREE ZIPLINE. I mean, come on. That's worth it right there.

The Olympic line is a magical train. It just appeared overnight. The rest of the time it carts children to a boarding school up north... oh wait, that was the hogwarts express. nevermind.

P.S. I blame the write/ride typo on my new journal layout. Or sleep deprivation. Not sure which yet.
