Thanks, I may try the Science Diet! I bought the over-priced vet dry food for the cats (you get a free coupon) and NO ONE would eat it, even Dee who eats everything, including plastic.
The big problem was that 3 cats have one type of crystal and 1 cat has another type of crystal, resulting in two different types of food. The other cat, we don't know, we locked her up for 24 hours and she wouldn't pee and when we took her into the vet, she peed on the table.
I'm not sure how to work different diets in for multiple cats when they are currently on a free-choice diet.
I hear you! It's IMPOSSIBLE to give free-range kitties different foods. We had to give Kitten (our other kitty at the time) the Science Diet too. We felt guilty for making her eat it, but she got so used to it after a while she wouldn't eat anything else! It's best to make them all eat the same thing. At least they'll be healthy kitties!!
My vets went through a brief period of worrying that Whisper was beginning to show crystals in his urine (his poor little immune system is so messed up that they test for everything a couple times a year). They had me add more wet food to his diet and make really sure he always had access to water.
To reinforce E's comments - yes, male cats are generally more susceptible than females. You want "low ash" foods, and you may want to be really, really sure that you have enough water out for the cats. One of my friend's female cat started going outside her litter box and one of the things that helped was putting out fresh water in several places around the house, so she always had access to it. She started drinking more water and that seemed to have helped.
Good luck! You really do need a break and I hope the universe hears your plea. Hugs from Viv, Whisper and Mocha
Thanks for the information. I will try the water bowl recommendation and the food C mentioned in her post.

Apparently not. My step-father's brother killed himself yesterday. I did not know him well because there was some family estrangement, but my step-father is heart-broken.
