which made me wonder what it is that makes some people very, very happy staying in their comfort zone and makes others live for getting out of it? i'm seriously kindof stumped about this-- what do you guys think?
im just as stumped about it as you are. but, whatever makes someone happy is, to me, what they should do. whether it means never leaving a county or seeing as many counties as humanly possible. i'm of the latter group.
i'd say i've traveled extensively around the states but i never knew any of these places existed! are you finding these places by suggestions of people you've met or did you research a little beforehand?
i love traveling as it is (my summer plans = crazy flying). people should definitely travel once in a while and see what's out there. i feel like i need to see more of it cos i don't want to miss out!
i just take the time to talk to literally every person i meet at gas stations, stop lights, diners, stores, etc, because someone who lives in an area is bound to know more about its weird/interesting places than any book or website.
also, leaving the interstates and travelling on state highways or country roads is a sure way to find really weird, wacky stuff or interesting little towns that haven't been over-commercialized or ruined by tourists.
Australian/New Zealand truckers scare me! There is an exchange program or something going on with the states where they take truckers from here and just stick them in a truck in the states and have them drive across the country without any training or big city knowledge. Aussies would be ok I guess since there are large cities there, but NZ only has 2 lane motorways plus they are driving on the other side of the road
( ... )
i love to read about your life because you do such a good job with it i believeab_gJuly 24 2005, 03:52:47 UTC
earlier in the year, around october, i was in this tiny little town in wa (paterosa) that had the entire town shut down because someone died. it was way wierd. (on the way out we made up a story that he was the owner of the general store, the only store in town, and that to own such an illustrious merchant they had closed the city). not super related but my point is... if you stay all your life in one county, you soooo don't get to learn about stuff like that. unless it's in your county. but yeah. stumped. p.s. i'm so ready to copy-cat crime you in a couple of years. USA here i come!!!!!!!!!!
