My Dad's family has a Yahoo Group to which many people post random stuff - we typically talk about football, politics, astronomy, current events, etc

Sorry Chris - but I agree with the article. I totally want the button that says "It's okay to wish me a Merry Christmas". In fact, I think I'll go order me one right now...
I'm a Christian and I say "Happy Holidays" just as often as I say "Merry Christmas." I know that not everyone celebrates Christmas and I'm okay with that. I also know that the people I say that too either celebrate New Years or just live in a country that does so its a dual thing with Christmas and New Years.
I really don't go out of my way to know who celebrates what, but if I know then I say Happy ____ or Merry Christmas or whatever coordinates with what they celebrate. Its not because I think what they are celebrating is right or more important - its because its what they celebrate and its polite and shows that I listen to them and care to specify.
But then again I'm also the pro-choice, not anti gay marriage Christian :)
I'm really glad to hear this. And this is the way I think it should be done - we should all be accepting of and give recognition to everyone's beliefs. I'm an athiest, but I don't go around stomping on people's beliefs because I truly feel it's a personal thing. I think Happy Holidays is just as, if not more, appropriate as Merry Christmas, especially in this diverse area.
I am upset that my Dad and other Christians that support the above cannot recognize and appreciate diversity, especially at this time of year. If it weren't for this stupid email he sent around, it would be a non-issue and we'd all just be enjoying the holiday. But no, now I'm all heated, I've gotten into an argument with my best friend, and I'm not sure I want to invite my Dad down for our Solstice celebration because I'm not sure if he'd respect it.
Thanks for your input! We don't converse much, and I think that should change. :)
