I feel like I haven't made any progress here at all. I don't have a group of friends, I'm still waking up alone, school isn't anything great at all, I'm not doing anything extra-curricular from a lack of friends and people not showing up to play ultimate anymore, and I'm just plain bored and lonely here as I realize that I can't hold a steady ( Read more... )

it amazes me how much no one really seemed prepared for this all despite watching so many people do it before us...

Do you have any suggestions for her to improve her situation? How do you be more prepared for living alone in a foreign town?

I think Chabot is a great school with great teachers and great students and a great community, that you are a part of when you're here, what more are you looking for, and excuse for contrasting the "stick it out" advice. Initiative then ends up being my suggestion, which is the dark side, figure I'd be the devil, I'm a guy too. Don't let yourself feel stuck!

im in the same boat as her and was posting just to give a little support by letting her know that she's not alone in doing feeling how she is right now. by no means do i feel more prepared.

i agree with you about chabot as well. the time i spent there was very worthwhile.

Maybe it doesn’t look it, but I’m sure a lot of people are going through the same thing, or at least that’s what I like to tell myself. Safety in numbers, right? Hopefully you’ll find something to hold onto - just be careful what it is.

I remember when my brother went to college (he only went to Berkley) he absolutely hated it his first year (he lived on campus) and when everybody came home for christmas everyone was talking about how much they hated it, so he knew it wasnt just him. Everybody stuck it out- and after the next year it was a lot better.
Having known that since freshman year made it a lot easier for me at the beginning of the year when i never went out and did anything. Then i decided to join improv and hope for the best- and it's not always great- but there are good times- enough for me to be satisfied for now. i dunno- i am sure it's different for me living on campus- but i also have the same problem with guys since i have a boyfriend, but then i find guys who are truly cool- albeit few.
But it is true that some people just dont like the schools theyre at- and they arent right for them... so i dont know. I just want to say i know what youre going through and i go through it too in cycles.
