I've been struggling lately with how to deal with my feminist rage.

I don't want to silence it. Anger is powerful, it gives us the strength to speak up with a resounding NO. Without anger, a recognition of injustice that is deeply felt, how is there to be resistance?

I want to be angry when a Vassar student publicly jokes about the rape of another. I ( Read more... )

I found your journal via the vassar blog, and its fantastic. This and the sublime Britney article really spoke to me. I also am disgusted when I hear people talk as if domestic abuse, off color jokes on violence against women, women treated as objects, etc., happen only in 3rd world countries. Much like Britney is part of our cultural myth, 50s pop utopia is too. Other readers think its all "hysteria"? Tell your parents you don't plan to have a baby and see how progressive we are in the US. You will see how much of your identity in society is built on the functioning of your uterus.
