Paint Update - 23 Jun 2006

The new carpet is supposed to be installed on July 3rd, which has created a painting deadline of July 2nd. I started on the living room ceiling last night-- what a b*tch that was! And I'm still not finished; I need to retouch it tonight. Problems encountered:

- The roller I am using isn't behaving. I put the roller in the paint tray, and it kind of just wants to get the one side of the roller cover in the paint, so I have a lopsided roller of paint. So I switched paint rollers. Er, do they all do this, or are my two (different style) paint rollers conspiring against me?
- Paint tray liners from hell: Home Depot got a bad batch of liners, and these love to slip out of the paint tray. Oh so fkng helpful.
- Paint drips. Despite being careful, with my CSI-style splatter-proof glasses and hanky on my head, I have fracking paint all over me. Minor drops on the floor, but as we're going to have it torn out in a week, I wasn't too freaked on that. However having it drip on my face? Eww!
- Bad lighting makes painting a ceiling IMPOSSIBLE. I was borrowing lights from all over the place and it didn't really help. When I got downstairs this morning, and the sunlight was illuminating my somewhat ok paint job, I could clearly see where I'd missed spots.
- I mistakenly thought one gallon of paint would cover the ceiling. I hate having to go back to Home Depot once I'm covered in paint, however extra points for painting barefoot and getting it on my toes and soles. Despite the shower, I still have paint on me.
- 11pm Thunderstorm prevented desperately need late night degrunging shower. So I had to go to be gritty. Blech.
- Textured ceilings S U C K. I don't know what brainchild thought up stucco and popcorn ceilings, but he needs a swift kick in the balls pronto. No woman came up with that. I sure hope not at least. It would tarnish the female image.

The final paint pallet is chosen. John and I are really happy with the choices. Tonight I start on the plum shade for the living room walls! I'm aiming to get the ceiling-wall edging completed tonight, so hopefully John and I can just paint the walls tomorrow after I get home from knitting.
