Yesterday I ordered a Dell laptop to replace my 7 and a half year old Dell Inspiron. I was lucky enough to find an online Dell promotion that gave me several $$$ off the cost plus free shipping. I won’t receive the machine until the end of Oct, but it should be here in time for NaNoWriMo.
Unfortunately, my Inspiron has seen better days. The CD/RW drive stopped working. The machine is ancient and has a mouse key that falls off the keyboard if I angle the laptop. Recently the machine has begun to stall or lock up at times for no reason, or fail to respond for an extended amount of time after booting. John has brought it as far up to date as it can probably go. It originally came loaded with Windows NT Professional, and John gave it a new hard drive, more memory and an upgrade to XP about a year and a half ago.
I can only hope that the new replacement lasts as long, and is as wonderful a machine as this one has been. I love this laptop, and while I’m excited about the new machine, I’m sad that I have to replace the Inspiron. It has been a very good friend.
