Yeah, I had to read her for my class. I don't particularly like her either, but I do respect her as a writer. And Terry Pratchett is one of my faves - I want to read the Discworld series over the next few years.

Actually I've only read The Game by Diana Wynne Jones, though I plan to read more of her!

It was... ah, what is it called. Jazz I think? It is a bad sign when my essay for English class was mainly "I want to throttle everyone in this book."

Oh do try Howl's Moving Castle. If you've seen the movie, it's the same basic story but I find the actual characters much more firey and the Witch waay more interesting. Castle in the Air is good too but the sequel sequel House of Many Ways not so much.

Hahaha, no. Even at this level, it makes it so much easier if you actually like the books you're writing about. Toni Morrison is a magical realist rather than a social realist writer though - you have to look at her books/characters in a more symbollic way.

I will definitely track that one down. My dissertation will be on children's fantasy books, and I've heard a lot of good things about that one.

I barely have enough time to read nowadays. *sigh*
I'm currently reading Game of Thrones, though when I found out the series is not yet finished I thought "oh no, another Robert Jordan!" :D

Well, I find Martin much easier to read that Jordan - I suppose because he mixes up narratives and points-of-views instead of focussing on one character through one book the way Jordan used to. And I think he's stopping at seven - fingers crossed!
