About Republicans vs. Democrats

I've been meaning to post this follow up to this reposted entry about Mitt Romney since after reading a rather thought-provoking entry from another friend on my f-list. I do think that ultimately most politicians are politicians and out to win votes, often by buying them or other immoral means. And I do think both parties have their problems ( ... )

I'm not trying to say that what the Democrats present as ideals is wrong, or what the Republicans present as ideals is right. Quite the opposite. I'm with you on thinking that the Republican party stance is overall immoral, and most of the stuff in Democrat's ideals is right and just.

This is not an anti-Democrat post.

I don't pretend to fully understand the issues at stake here - the American political system baffles me in all honest - but I don't think there's anything 'convenient' about the timing of Obama's coming out in support of marriage equality. As someone else has already pointed out - if anything, this will cost him votes. Voting Democrat does not automatically mean someone supports gay rights. Also, he can only give his opinion - he can't just make it law (even if he could get it past congress) - it's down to the individual states ( ... )

But is he the best available option right now? Without a shadow of a doubt.

I couldn't agree more with this as it is.

This post is by no means an anti-Obama or anti-Democrat post. Let alone a pro-Romney one. *shudders*
