I saw this interview with an actor named Gary Sinise and he was talking about this program that he is promoting in Iraq. It is a program in which American soldiers are over there teaching, talking, and spending time with Iraqi children. It was so interesting to me b/c the media promotes so many negative images of the war and this was a positive ( Read more... )

i have only 1 thing to say about lt. dan's argument: it is a good one, however, without proper funding from a true iraqi government, it will never last. unfortunately it faces a fate that isn't pretty. Also unfortunate is that the latest gallup polls show an amazing amount of resentment by the Iraqi people towards American soldiers, on about the same level as that of American Colonists pre-Revolution. And this growing resentment is only triggering more and more violence. The true end of this war will not be brought about by Americans alone, and the most important thing for teenagers to realize is not that Americans and Iraqi's can get along, because we all know that that is possible, but to realize that by going at this alone our friends, neighbors and loved ones are fighting a war which will never have an end. sadly this war isn't another vietnam, but another easter war, or the war for irish independence. the violence will never end because of an unwillingness to compromise. also i urge you to check out ... )

I don't disagree with anything you say here, I just want people to see the light on things. . . this program is based on donation not iraqi funding, at least thats what this dude said in the interview. I just feel like so many people , especially college kids, feel like America is this un-humanitarian killing machine, which it isn't! Plus, I wanted to show that there is this positive relationship between these children and these American soldiers. I myself don't understand the details of this war, but I just thought it was sweet that some good can come out of it. I dunno, I believe there is always good coming from something bad. . . whether its a war, or a . . . anything else.
One more thing. . .polls show that the more news a person watches, the more mis-informed he/she is about this war.
