kris10_icons i should've been working on chapter 5 of
ricochet (which, actually, is coming along pretty great after a short period of procrastination), but apparently i needed to get this off my chest. you know how i am with new fandoms: i basically watched the entire two seasons of haven in three days and of course i fell in love with nathan and nathan/audrey and oh my GOD the way he looks at her i'm just never getting over it OKAY? and thus, this little drabble-y thing was born. IDEK.
for a smile. G, nathan/audrey, post-S2 finale (spoilers!).
she was the only person who could make him smile like that, make him feel like that.

Most of the time him and Audrey spent together (which was a lot, given that they were partners), he spent with a smile on his face. Well, as much of a smile as Nathan Wuornos was capable of-- corners of his lips just barely crinkling up, and his eyes would light up a bit as well. He knew this because she had commented on it once, how his eyes more than made up for his usual inexpressiveness.
Of course, it wasn't literally all the time. That would be creepy and weird. Mostly because, again, they were cops, and certain aspects of their profession demanded they be serious. One didn't exactly feel inspired to smile when people had, or were about to, be killed or hurt. But apart from that, a small smile seemed to be pretty much permanently on his face when he was around her. Full-blown smiles were more frequent since she came to Haven than they had been since his teenage years. Sometimes the smiles were amused or teasing, sometimes even a little shy or awkward. Sometimes it was more of a smirk, but always a smile in some shape or form. It was something he simply couldn't hold in when he was with her, and more than that, he didn't even want to.
He figured this was a big part of why they worked so well as partners, and eventually friends. It was hard for him to let anyone in with his naturally reserved personality, and his affliction certainly didn't help matters, but there was something about her that broke through that so easily. They could be in the most serious situation, and she would say or do something so completely unexpected that it never failed to make him smile. Because it reminded him that she was different. Different from him, different from anybody he had ever known. She was special.
It wasn't because of the mystery that seemed to surround her. It wasn't because she had a talent to help the Troubled. It wasn't because he could feel her. He recognized something in her even before he realized that, maybe even from the very first time they met. No, it was just her. Not Lucy Ripley, not the original Audrey Parker, just her. Whoever she was, whatever her name, it didn't matter to him. He knew her, knew what defined her, and it drew him in like a moth to a flame. She was the only person who could make him smile like that, make him feel like that.
He had to find her. He didn't think he would ever smile again if he didn't get her back.
