Not enough room!

About a month ago my daughter's Brownie vest disappeared into thin air. Today I went out and managed to replace almost everything. She really wanted a sash instead of a vest this time, so we bought her the xtra long one. The problem is, she doesn't have enough room on it for all of her patches...and she still has a year and a half to go as a ( Read more... )

in our neck of the woods its customary to only wear official stuff on the sash/vest and wear patches on a "patch jacket". Most troops have jackets for all the girls that match as a troop and they fill them up with patches, their try-its spill over to the back of the sash. I would probably encourage you to go more that route...a jacket or other such to showcase all of her patches rather than the two sashes...I think it might look rather dishevled with two and not as "tidy" especially when doing things like flag ceremonies or selling product.

I don't believe there is any policy however...the only thing I *DO* know is that the "fun" patches are not supposed to be worn on the front of the uniform which you mentioned it would all be on the back.

We used to do the same thing that the above poster mentioned: continue the official & earned insignia on the back of the vest/sash, and put the unofficial "fun" patches on a jacket or sweatshirt. Some troops had windbreakers made as a group with names & troop numbers embroidered on them, but mine was just a plain blue sweatshirt (XXL to fit all the patches) from some everyday store.

What my mother did for me when I was a senior and had waaaay too many to fit was that she kind of layered them. She would sew about an inch on the top of the patch and leave the rest unsewn on. Then about an inch or less above that one she would lay another one on and sew about an inch of it on. Sort of like roofing tiles... if that makes sense.

I loved it! Because I could have ALL my patches on my vest.

I'm not sure what to do about this, but when I became a Cadette, I made sure to get a vest, and even now, as a Senior, my patches are "layered"--they overlap slightly.

Good luck!!

there are a number of girls in my area who have their patches layered. i don't see a problem with having a second sash, though. uniform standards are fairly loose; girls are in uniform if they're wearing a membership pin. from my prospective, unless there are inappropriate things (which i'm sure there aren't) on your daughter's sash, your council isn't going to care that she's got two.
