I personally think its awesome that she set a HUGE goal and acheived it. Its not about whether she's setting up for failure...its about that fact that she had a drive to do something that seemed impossible and she did it. That is what the brownies will learn. Its a GOOD example for them to see that they can set goals and that they can do their best and its worth trying. Its better to TRY and to see that they can set their sights high than to just "get by" with only goals that are easily met. What more can they learn in failure than in always succeeding too? I applaud her and I thinks she's a great example of what a Girl Scout is and can be!
"Failure" is a party of learning. If you succeed everytime in everything you aren't setting your sights high enough. Why strive to be less than your best? Aim for the stars and if you miss, oh well.
What about her education? When did she have time to study and participate in school activities. I really don't believe that cookies come before a child's education.
From the fall of 1981 to the summer of 1982, I wrapped christmas presents for donations, bagged groceries at the post exchange, sold calenders, cookies, babysat, cleaned apartments, did coat/hat check for theatre productions and saved almost my every dime of my allowance to earn the $1,500 for my International Opportunity to Italy and $150.00 for special camp uniforms/equipment needed. My parents told me if I could come with that then they would come up with $200 in mad/spending money. In May 1982, my parents were floored to find out the trip for me was completely paid. The five girls who were going with me, still owed over half and their parents were footing the bill. Girl Scouts teaches girls to reach for the stars because they can reach them. I kept my 4.0 average, did school activities, did fun stuff for GS, and my other friends but I had goal! I knew my parents could not afford to pay for the trip, and if I wanted to go then I had to raise the money! My parents to this day still think that I am the biggest money miser they know
