There was a blurb on NPR this morning about Cookie Monster eating broccoli, so I googled it and found that Cookie's been on a diet for a while:

i did know about this, but have not been able to deal with sesame street for some time. there's just been too much dumbing down and all the elmo bullshit like...cannot deal.

i grew up on it too. when they had the skits about the hippies being too stoned to realize the plant needs to be watered to live. or that the food other people [like black people!] eat is weird and different...but delicious! mmmmmm plantains!

i don't know, we're just too goddamn PC and needing for the government to tell us what's good for us these days and it scares the shit out of me.
