Word Count: 360

Summary: The season 2 finale never happened, Robin makes Marian an offer she can't refuse and Marian tells Guy what she really thinks of him, this is the aftermath of that.

The blinding anger he had felt building up at the beginning of her furious soliloquy dissipated within seconds into something else, something stronger and frighteningly unfamiliar. He could practically feel the cold metal knife being plunged into his chest, driven deeper by every one of her poisonous words, the unyielding silver blade twisting into his heart on seeing the expression of pure unbridled hatred on her face. Her eyes told a different story to the ones he knew and loved, usually those beautiful clear blue eyes were filled with innocence and dancing with a nervous energy neither he nor her father had been able to, nor wanted to, tame. He bowed his head when he felt the hot sting of pricking his eyes desperately clinging to the only scrap of dignity she had left him.

She was breathing heavily, eyes boring into the top of his bowed head. She felt the anger slowly dissolve and turn into fear, fear of his silence. She was expecting him to shout back in her face, maybe strike her. She had seen him do it to many people before now, not thinking twice before hitting them hard across the face, anything to get his own way or prove his strength. But still he stood there, his head bowed as if he was hiding something, shoulders slumped forward in defeat and his breathing as heavy and laboured as her own. He lifted his head slowly and heard her gasp.

“I had hoped I would know what it is to be loved in this life… I am foolish”

That’s when she realised it, as the tears ran down his face, his clear blue eyes fixed onto her own telling, a story of a lifetime of heartache, that he was a human being. It had always been convenient for her to believe that he was without emotion; the Sheriffs iron fist and bully incapable of any emotion other than hatred. She had ripped hid heart out and stamped on it, trampling all over his feelings on her mission to help Robin.

She had broken his heart one too many times, things would never be the same again.
