IS Thais in French? For some reason I think I've seen that...but my lack of opera knowledge I assumed they were always in Italian. Could be a totally different one and I'm just coinfused...it's still early out here

It is. It takes place in Alexandria, and is about a beautiful courtesan named Thais. A Christian dude tries to cure her of her "evil" ways, and she follows him through the desert to a convent. He realizes later that he loves her and goes to rescue her from the convent, but she is dying when he arrives.

Although opera is believed to have originated in Italy, it is now presented in many different languages. I once saw Boris Gudonov, which is in Russian.
