The language of poetry

I’m trying to keep my poetry reading mind sharp for my upcoming workshop on the prose poem. I was reading Naomi Shihab Nye the other night when M. walked in and said hello. Oh, that one gave me goosebumps. Thanks for sharing.

I'm with you, I prefer to read a poem quietly to myself rather than hear it aloud.

A great example is the poem read at Obama's inauguration. Beautiful words and sentiments, but read in such a bizarrely halting way that it was distracting.
