A Secluded Area of the Beach, Wednesday Early Evening

Elena walked up towards the beach slowly, wondering if it held the same draw for her sister that it did for her. The sky was a novelty to anyone who grew up under the plate; the roar of the ocean, too. There was something soothing to a beach. Infinite possibilities spilling out towards the endless sky.

She was going to be composed. She was going to be nineteen and not nine. She was going to be strong and supportive for her older sister, and not the one who needed care. She was going to try, at least.

"Hey."

A similar draw, but a very different perspective. Rosalind had heard her sister approach, heard her speak, and still it was a few moments before she bothered to glance away from the ocean.

If Elena was looking for weaknesses in Rosalind's bearing, on her face, she wouldn't find anything other than the fact that her eyes were a bit cooler than normal even for her.

Appearances mattered. Weaknesses were to be hidden. She wasn't sure what to think, Reno had made it worse, but if nothing else, Rosalind could keep up appearances and look as if nothing were bothering her. It was a peculiar sort of triumph.

And she was used to being strong around Elena.

"Elena," she said calmly. "Are you feeling better?"

She had sounded... interesting... in the message last night. As well as deflecting interest from her own well-being, however temporarily that reprieve might be.

"Much," Elena said, reassured by how steady her voice sounded. She was going to try to be the older one, for once. She was older, now, and from far off in the future. She could do this.

"Next time I make a phone call, I'll figure out what to say first," she added, somewhat sheepishly.

"That is generally advisable," she replied, turning her gaze back to the ocean. Rosalind tactfully (for her) left off the unspoken thought of 'I hope you do not write your reports with as little planning as you make your calls'.

"You wanted to meet."

And the reason was...?

Rosalind could come up with several reasons, starting with the simple 'you're my sister', but wanted to see what Elena had to say.
