A Corner of the Park, Sunday Afternoon

Rosalind was quite glad that the weekend was-over.

Really.

Despite the fact that she was going to have to say good-bye to her sister. (Sisters?)

To be entirely honest, however, Rosalind was almost reluctant to say good-bye to her boss as well. It was… not nice, not exactly, to have him around. But very regular and she approved of that ( Read more... )

"We still have no word on the whereabouts of AVALANCHE," Tseng noted, in that brisk, professional tone that he used whenever he was about to say 'no' without actually out and vocalizing the word. "But, as I've said before, I'll update you on the situation with them as soon as we do."

So, you know, hang in there.

If Rosalind was her sister, she'd have been sulking outright. But Rosalind had far too much dignity for that.

Far too much wrapped up in her need to appear professional.

The 'no' stung, though it was not unexpected.

"Forgive my impatience," she murmured, glancing at him. "Sir."

"I'm willing to overlook it," Tseng replied, rather congenially. For Tseng. "This once. And while I can't guarantee that you'll be resuming active duty in the near future, I can look into the possibility of finding a means to keep you occupied from a distance."

Brace yourself, Rosalind. This could only mean that he was going to start mailing you paperwork, unless he found himself otherwise inspired.

Oh, Tseng. Rosalind was--absolutely the wrong person to tell you had work.

Of any sort.

She liked work.

"I would appreciate that, sir," she said earnestly. Because she was a chronic overachiever.

Sometime after Tseng, there was gong to be the good-bye that was way less mature.

Hey, she was eight. Expecting maturity out of her was a bit much.

"But I don't want to go," Elena insisted. And not for the first time, either.

Rosalind knelt so she was Elena's height.

"I don't think you can stay," she said, very gently. "You'd fall behind in school."

"I don't mind!" Elena insisted. "School is stupid! I could stay with you and take classes here!"

Please? Please!?

"School isn't stupid," she said, with a sigh that was more of a smile than anything else. "Don't you think you'd miss your friends at home?"
