While he definitely would have preferred to come at another time, when there were less students around for one, Severus needed to get some supplies for the classes at school. While most were available in Diagon Alley, he also needed some personal supplies from one of the stores on Knockturn Alley, otherwise he simply would have owled.

Scowling deeply, he dusted the floo powder off his black robes and set off down the street, hoping that none of the little brats got it in their heads to come near him. He'd only taken a few steps when he saw a very familiar blonde head in the crowd and quickened his pace. It's not as if he didn't know where Lucius was, and since there was no sign of Narcissa... "Mr. Malfoy."

Caught up in a pleasant daydream about finally winning the Quidditch cup and lording the victory over everyone at school, Draco startled a bit when his name was called out.

He turned around, blinking the dazed look from his eyes and inclined his head at his head of house:

"Professor, sir."

Stepping up to his side, Severus inquired quietly, "Did your mother not bring you?"

Narcissa Malfoy was a hard woman to miss, though Severus knew it was possible.
