Build A Bridge And Get The Fuck Over It

Dec 13, 2008 17:14

I just finished watching the documentary The Bridge, about people who commit suicide at The Golden Gate Bridge - I've sorta been putting it off. Filming occurred throughout the entirety of 2004. I cannot help but think that if it had been shot in the following year, 2005, they would have most certainly captured (and possibly prevented) Stephen'sRead more... )

Assholes spammed his guestbook. That makes me sad. I read his blog shortly after you wrote about his death, and I'm so glad it still exists (even with assholes having spammed his guestbook).

I noticed that.

There's a very, very small part of me that feels he's still alive - that he planned all of this just to disappear. The Bridge security found his bag on the Golden Gate on Thursday, and surmised he'd jumped the previous Saturday - contents of his bag led them back to the hotel room he'd been staying in. He must have hidden it really well - the movie illustrates just how much daily traffic that area receives. How could no-one have seen him? I dunno. I'm just glad his site is still up.

I'm happy you read his blog. It was truly the highlight of my week when he posted.

Jesus. As another Aspie who's just had a very rough (emotionally/psychologically speaking) couple of days, I feel his and your pain. Sigh.

He claimed that he wasn't depressed, that he just wanted to be done with life at age 30. He was quite adamant that he was happy in general, and his journals showed meticulous planning - 6 years' worth - so it was just something his life was leading to. Even though he was consistently stoic in person, nonetheless he did an amazing job at keeping it to himself - only one other person knew (a girl he was romantically involved with online who I think lives in Chicago). They were both members of ASH - alt-suicide holiday - a site where people get together and discuss how they're going to kill themselves...mostly it's a site for sad kids who want to talk about suicide, not actually do it. She was apparently shocked he went ahead with it, but knew of his plans. He visited with her just before he jumped. She contacted me out of the blue after he died (she'd been watching me through my journal, unbeknownst to me) and in turn I shared all the information she gave me with Stephen's parents. After that, we had a 'falling out' - I told her ( ... )

I looked for him when I watched the film, but when they posted the dates at the end, I knew he wouldn't have been there yet.

I was just thinking of the guy with the long hair and the leather jacket this morning as I lay in bed. Weird.

Weird indeed - but we are mental twins, you poor thing. It must take so much to do that, just swing yourself over the barrier and let go. I was prepared to see the people jumping, but it still really affected me.

I really miss you honey. I'm feeling a little bleak today.

Speaking of bleak, have you read The Road, by Cormac McCarthy? I've been thinking of that all day, too.

Well, we're mental, at any rate.

I really miss you, too, and I hope to channel some of my cookie-making (and your pressie arrived today, so I automatically felt joyful) cheer your way today. I'm on my last few dozen, so there's that. We're also putting up the tree today, even though it's cold and rainy as fuck outside.

I finished The Road a few months ago. Loved it, bleak as it may have been. Can't wait to see Viggo in the movie.
