My Rambling Thoughts On Male Circumcision In The Western World (NSFW Links)

A concept that floats around in my head on occasion, recently inflamed with an impassioned and possibly outrageous verbal outbreak that could have been better presented. Hopefully here;

It sometimes shocks me to acknowledge that male circumcision is performed to this day. Far from touting hippy sensibilities for the sake of getting all dirty, it is ( Read more... )

I'm against circumcision because it's hotter without it, but I do believe studies show it basically removes any chance of penile cancer? My memory may be shoddy on that.

I was outraged reading some years ago that Germaine Greer has no problems with female circumcision and that to condemn it amount to Westerners imposing their beliefs onto other cultures they deem to be inferior. I don't think their cultures are inferior at all, I just think what the act is inhumane and unfair; we have our own barbaric practices (the death penalty, etc).

Yeah I've gotten into trouble for similar shit; saying things that may or may not have been my business, but saying it cause I cared about the other person and it's something the person needed to know.

Speaking from the male perspective, a small boy (no dick jokes here), even if he's circumcised, will produce his fair share of smegma. Teaching a boy about proper penile hygiene is necessary in either case, so why not just keep the foreskin as he'll be learning a life long process early anyway?

Have I told you lately that I love you?

Thanks for the write-up. There are many things in life that are bizarre or ill-justified wrongs. Just because they're not top of the list doesn't mean we should stop railing against them.

1. Its not 'against' a child's will, necessarily. Its 'without' their will.

Side Note: I had pierced ears by 4. No bogan parents. More, horrified ones. At 3, I asked if I could have pierced ears. They said no, I wasn't old enough. I asked when I would be. They said, thinking there was no chance I'd remember, when I was 4. I accepted this and didn't mention it again till I was 4. Then I screamed 'unfair' and 'you promised' until they pierced my ears.

I'm not completely sure where I stand on male circumcision. I have heard men say they are so sensitive even circumcised, that they're not sure how incredibly sensitive they'd have been without it, and so are grateful. I'm not convinced that's an argument, given how anecdotal it is.

I'm Jewish, and was circumcised at 8 days of age, and I couldn't agree with you more, Catt. I do not support the mutilation of anyone by anyone else without their consent. And they must be adults to give that consent.

I've heard all the supposed "health" reasons for performing circumcision, and none have ever been even slightly compelling.
