So, Jennifer [
fakedeep] and Krysten [
zeetoe] did this [well, Jen suggested it and Krysten actually did it...] and now I'm going to!
if you want the songs, I can upload them and send you the links. but I'm not going to right now, because I'm lazy.
1) The Grateful Dead - Scarlet Begonias: this song and I have a long history. my parents, God bless their wittle hearts, are both Deadheads. this was one of my favorite songs back when I was about 5, so yeah.
2) Crosby, Stills, and Nash - Suite: Judy Blue Eyes: lyrics. absolutely amazing lyrics, incredible harmonies, plus it's about one of my favorite singers.
3) Judy Collins - Who Knows Where the Time Goes: uh, she's Judy Collins and I'd probably listen to her sing just about anything and love it? she's also the aforementioned Judy Blue Eyes.
4) Tchaikovsky - String Serenade - Waltz: I've got a soft spot for strings, and this is just absolutely lovely.
5) Shostakovich - Waltz 2 from Jazz Suite: I first started looking for Shostakovich music because I thought he had a cool name; this a great song.
6) Gounod - Faust - Waltz: It seems I have a penchant for waltzes.
7) Elmer Bernstein - Theme from To Kill a Mockingbird: I also love instrumental movie themes, and this is simply amazing. it's this lovely, delicate piano piece and it's just...I don't even know.
8) Thomas Newman - Theme from The Shawshank Redemption: uhhh, have you HEARD it? Thomas Newman also composed the music for "Little Women", which I love, but this. it's amazing.
9) George Hearn - I Am What I Am (La Cage aux Folles OBC): I adore this man's voice, and the lyrics are awesome.
10) Mandy Patinkin & Bernadette Peters - Move On (Sunday in the Park With George OBC): Bernadette was my first musical theatre diva love, Mandy's voice can take yours down any day [unless you're George Hearn], and Sondheim's music and lyrics are amazing. Sondheim is truly the greatest composer of our time.
11) Fiddler on the Roof OST - Sabbath Prayer: As much as I love songs like "Sunrise, Sunset", "Do You Love Me?", and "Far From the Home I Love", I'd have to say that "Sabbath Prayer" is my favorite song from Fiddler. I can't even describe it; Topol's "Amen" at the end...it just slays me.
12) The Mamas and the Papas - Creeque Alley: Every song by them is gold.
13) Cass Elliot - Dream a Little Dream: Mama Cass truly was the most talented singer in The Mamas and the Papas.
14) Mary O'Dowd - The Dutchman: I don't have this version anymore, but her version trumps all others. it's an incredibly melancholy song, but I love it all the same.
15) Irish Tenors - Galway Bay: This was one of Pop's favorite songs, so it's always going to have a special place in my heart.
16) Judy Collins - All On a Wintry Night: Best. Original. Christmas. song. EVER.
17) Pacific Overtures OBC - Someone in a Tree: I don't know, I can't explain it.
18) Annie OST - Sign: hahahaahha, billiard ball. Bonus Iries!
19) Patti LuPone - Buenos Aires (Evita OBC): I hate Andrew Lloyd Webber, but Patti! the voice. I know I've been going crazy with the Patti love recently, but her voice is truly incredible.
20) Mandy Patinkin & Patti LuPone - High Flying, Adored (Evita OBC): same deal, ALW = bad. Mandy + Patti = AMAZING. I want this song played at my wedding, even though it's quite depressing.
21) Bernadette Peters - Move On (solo version): It's just as good as the other one!
22) Petula Clark - How Are Things in Glocca Morra (Finian's Rainbow OST): "Finian's Rainbow" is, to me, one of the most underappreciated musicals of all time. I love this song, in all it's Petula glory.
23) The Moody Blues - Forever Autumn: Again, my parents were BIG fans of The Moody Blues; this is one of my favorite songs of theirs, because of the lyrics and the fact that it's so differnt. The Moody Blues were a very unique group, and that's why I love them.
24) Angela Lansbury & Bea Arthur - Bosom Buddies (Mame OBC): It's funny! Angela and Bea pwn.
25) Sweeney Todd Revival Cast - Not While I'm Around: OMG VIOLIN! there's this part when Patti's singing and Mano's playing this incredibly dissonant stuff on his violin and it's so stark and so...amazing. he talks about how it totally highlights what Mrs. Lovett is really thinking and it's incredible.
that's all. my music is silly.
