But I like it. It feels like the right thing, something Pike would've done. He would've taken the guilt on himself just to protect the ones he loves. He really is such an awesome character!
I like what this did to him, too. And the conflict between his two jobs, or rather lives. In a way, this resembles the real Pike in Star Trek--both diplomat and BAMF. And, as always, Pike as a father figure is pure awesomeness, especially if he's reacting that way towards Kirk. Any Kirk.

Pike will always be the father figure of the group, whether it's canon AOS, or any of the other AUs I'm writing. It's just natural. I think a lot of what makes him a fun character to write and include is his natural pull, and the leadership vibe he gives off. He's just a strong person, and I think people (both us as fans and characters in the 'Trek 'verse) are drawn to that. At least that's what got me when I saw the 2009 reboot. I literally sat in the theatre going, "Can this dude be any more awesome?"
